March 13th 2025 A Normal Day for The Biking Birder Thursday Part 3 RSPB Sandwell Valley

So, after taking cuddly toys to Toys4Life and having filled my little Nissan Note with children's books from them, I head to Sandwell Valley RSPB reserve to volunteer there for the afternoon, working on the reception desk.

People arrive with dogs, people arrive with children and some even arrive in order to birdwatch!

The RSPB staff are a delight, the people who come to visit are always interesting and interested in the reserve.

One of the things I love about the reserve is that the view from the large windows looking south reveals trees, fields and a large reed-fringed lake. Only one building can be seen and that is a tall apartment block in the centre of Birmingham, ten miles or so away!

This reserve is in the middle of the Black Country conurbation, surrounded by a built up area with millions of people living within a few miles of the reserve . . .

. . . and yet, this oasis is perfect for a day out with nature.

Thursday continues with a rush back to Mum's in order to drop off the boxes of children's books, ready to be sorted in the morning.

And so we continue onto something not part of a 'normal' Thursday, an evening talk to a WI (Women's Institute) group.
