BIKING BIRDER I April 17th 2010 Part two Towards The Elan valley and Carngaffalt RSPB Reserve

April 17th 2010

Batteries charged by visiting a lovely old-timey cafe in Rhayader, I cycled along a beautiful cycle path towards The Elan Valley.

Reached the RSPB reserve, Carngaffalt, I hid the bike and walked up the steep roads adjacent to the reserve whilst enjoying the birds and views.

Incredibly beautiful, I felt that I was a couple of weeks too early to enjoy the reserve at its best with the leaves still to emerge from winter slumbers.

To the dam and past a grubby noticeboard detailing the history of the area.

The rest of this wonderful day was spent cycling around the huge reservoirs, with the water being stored before being piped for hundreds of miles to the world's best city, Birmingham.

Coming down one section of road towards a narrow stream that led into the last of the reservoirs, memories from childhood picnics with Mum, Dad, brother and Sister and on one occasion Nan & Granddad.

I suppose I will never know why but Mum & Dad used to often bring us to this same small area next to the stream for a day spent walking the hills, swimming in the stream or watching the small trout dappled in the fast waters.
