Green Birding Starts at HOME! Romsley Birds

Regular early morning counts of the birds that visit Mum's garden reveal interesting bird population fluctuations and the occasional rarity, such as the Brambling seen in the photo above.

Siskin numbers grew to a maximum of 13 last week; though this compares poorly with the over fifty seen together at this time last year.

European Goldfinch number have been steady with around a dozen on the feeders most of the time. Twenty one on one occasion last week was exceptional.

With masses of Home Bargains' superior fat balls offered in a number of feeders, some being squirrel-proof, a lot of titmice are always present and a couple of Eurasian Nuthatches visit them too.

The titmice include Blue, Coal and Great Tits with up to eight Long-tailed Titmice on the fat balls too.

Other birds seen regularly but in smaller numbers include Treecreeper, Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Blackbird, Redpolls, Greenfinch, Chaffinch and just one Bullfinch, Jays, Magpies and Crows, Ravens fly over croaking and pigeons include Stock Doves, Wood Pigeons and Collared Doves.

One of Mum's favourites though is the almost ever present diminutive Goldcrest. To see it just inches away from the window adjacent to where Mum sits is amazing and one can see just how tiny it is.
